Returned home from chingay @ north 2010 smelling like gunpowder or some sort of nitrate because of the firecrackers. The whole event was delayed about 1 and a half hour because of the rain at about 6pm.

First day of lecture

Today was the first day of lecture, all the lectures were interesting except for physics where the lecturer was very monotone and didn’t add in jokes or interesting slides like the other lecturers.

The day started with assembly when they gave out the temporary timetable, the first mass lecture which was GP . The teacher introduce us the exam format and topics that may come out such as crime and punishment, war and conflict and etc. The school also need us to subscribe to broader perspectives magazine.

After GP was H2 math lecture. Spent most of the time waiting for people to open their calculator and after that the lecturer showed how to use it. After a while he showed us how to reset the calculator. Most student followed even though the calculator screen showed a warning that it will clear apps and data. In the end the resetting cause most of the apps in the calculator to be deleted and one of the app, poly root finder and simultaneous eqn solver, which was needed for the first chapter was also deleted. At first the lecturer thought that it was the OS problem then finally realized that the resetting had deleted the poly root finder and simultaneous eqn solver so the only solutions was to go home and redl the app and transfer to the gc by usb or find a friend with a unreseted calculator and transfer using a link wire between 2 gc. That problem took up the whole lecture time and the lecturer joke about today lesson only learn about opening the gc.

After that was 1 and a half hour of break since the only lecture during that time was h2 humans. After break was H2 phy lecture, the lecture also started with introduction to the exam format and syllabus then the first chapter was measurements. The lecturer’s monotonous voice caused most student to doze off.

After Phy was Chem which in my opinion was the most interesting lecture. The lecturer showed us the video about the periodic table and that the IJC chem unit have a delicious account which have link to all the resources. http://delicious.com/innovachem .

After chem was 1 hour lunch time and then civics lecture which is like CD programme and the distribution of the student handbook. Then a video about putting a good attitude towards work. After the lecture was home sweet home

Finally its the last day of orientation. After all those cheering, mass dance, station game and talks about cca and subject its finally over. I think i would appreciate such orientation more if it was held after we were sorted to our subject combination. And now we have to make new acquaintances without help of ice breaker games which is quite difficult for an introvert.

Surprised that my house, Rasalas, actually won the best house for orientation even though half of the house is not that enthu. After 3 days in school, still not sure where the all the toilet, water cooler or lecture hall are located. After debating with my parents I got my CPM/E combination, they argued that history can be self studied and etc so take econs is better, lets see what econs have in store for me.

Still deciding which CCA to take, tempted by the New media arts since its the school’s niche area and there’s photography and digital arts or should i take on shooting, damn I hate making such decisions.

Hope that tomorrow’s mass lecture and tutorial sessions would be fine and mark a good start of JC life
